Not gonna lie, bit of palette regret here. The new NARSissist Unfiltered Cheek Palette doesn't quite live up to it's gorgeous image. I'm slightly anti-blusher palettes anyway, seeing as that's probably the one bit of makeup I'm likely to re-apply throughout the day, so a single blush in my bag will do, thanks. However, NARS just nail it with stunning palettes, this one looks incredible – and the big pans make you feel like you're getting your money's worth. The Unfiltered is a warm-toned collection, and the Unfiltered II is cools. With my paler than pale complexion you're probably thinking I should have gone for the latter, right? Possibly, but I'm not at all adverse to making deep reds and mauves work on my cheeks. This larry let down of a palette swatches nothing like the marketing pictures, and the top three shades are so metallic they may as well be eyeshadows, as I sure as heck can't wear brown highlighter without looking like a muddy robot. I knew one of the shades was a highlight, but not three, I think it's a bit of a cop out to call a blush palette a blush palette when half of the pans are highlighters.
Watch Me is a pale gold, but still more gold than I'd probably wear as an everyday highlight. When I swatched Me First and Takeover I was just like – wat. Never been more disappointed by swatches, they look so different from the ones on NARS' site. I think the idea is that you get all creative and use them as blush toppers and mix and match, but who's got time for that? I might use them as eyeshadows, but they're definitely not what I signed up for. Out There is my favourite shade so far, for both blush and eyeshadow, it's the kind of rich plum that can warm up pale skin and make the green in my hazel eyes pop. Chic is okay, and I really like Exhibit A, can't wait to road test that one. The texture of Out There is probably the best one as well, the others are a little dried out, I've definitely felt creamier blushes (and highlighters). All in all, a duff palette, and I wish I'd swatched it in real life instead of falling for the hype. This definitely wasn't breaking my makeup ban for, I feel like a fool.
